the cultivation of roses is not easy, they are plants that require your attention but that with a little care you will thank us very well with their lavish blooms. With following these simple 6 steps to have the healthy roses you will see your rewards and care towards them pleasantly rewarded.

The steps to have healthy roses

1.Fertilizationhealthy roses

The rose is a demanding plant in this aspect, it needs many nutrients to develop and flourish well. The newly planted roses will have to be paid after 4 weeks. And the roses already consolidated will be paid in spring when the new buds of the year measure about 15 cm. Wild roses, ancient roses, and climbers are fertilized at the beginning of spring when they prepare to sprout. Later we will make a second fertilizer after the first flowering. In cold areas, we will stop paying at least 6 weeks before the first frosts.

2. Irrigation

From spring to autumn we will water 1-2 times a week. When the heat is very intense we can increase it to 4-5 times per week. The watering must be abundant so that the earth moistens until a depth of about 40 cm.

3. The wedding

Weeds should be removed as soon as possible and especially before they form seeds. Padding is also a good practice to prevent the appearance of weeds in the roses as well as help to stop the evaporation of water. Anyway, the layer of mulch should not be larger than 10 cm in any case and we will leave free space around the trunk of the rose bush to prevent insects from climbing on it.

4. The cleaning

Keeping the rose bush carefully cutting out the withered flowers will help prevent the appearance of insects and pests. In addition, we will avoid that the plant uses its forces forming the seeds. Forces that we prefer to use in flowering. Another advantage of removing the withered flowers is that it favors the new flowering and the formation of new branches. When cutting the flowers we will do it below the 5th petiole, where the stem has the thickness of a pencil more or less. We will cut the inner branches that have grown too much to facilitate the circulation of the air and we will remove the dry leaves accumulated under the rose bush. We will also eliminate any outbreak that appears at ground level.

5. Protection against pests and diseases

We must assure the rose a minimum of 6 hours a day of direct sunlight, it is essential for your health. We will select the most suitable varieties for the area where we live and the most resistant. Observe constantly to perceive the invasions of insects and the signs of illness as soon as possible. We will use, preferably, pesticides and organic phytosanitary products.

6. Winter

After the winter pruning, we will protect the trunk and roots with a cone for roses or with mulch that we will remove at the arrival of spring. In the case of climbing roses, we will protect them with burlap cloth. Choosing the most suitable varieties of roses for our area is also an essential measure, and especially if we live in areas of very rigorous winters. Logically in these areas will have to maximize the protection and care to protect the roses from extreme cold.
